MEXICO CITY – The death toll from a gas truck explosion in Mexico City rose to eight after four more victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital on Thursday, authorities said. The truck overturned and blew up Wednesday in the capital’s densely populated Iztapalapa district, injuring dozens and leaving several people with second- and third-degree burns. The blast caused widespread damage and disruption. Mayor Clara Brugada told journalists a total of 94 people were hurt in the blast, of whom 22 including the driver remained hospitalized in critical condition Thursday, while six suffered serious injuries. Several had already been discharged. People swarmed to hospitals Thursday to bring food and water to relatives of the victims who were waiting anxiously for updates. Brugada offered economic help for the injured and to pay for the funeral costs of the deceased.
