Prince Andrew attended the funeral service of Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, held at Westminster Cathedral on Tuesday. In an awkward exchange with Prince William, the Duke of York could be seen muttering a few words to his nephew, who appeared to decline engaging in a conversation, according to ITV News host Chris Ship. The royal correspondent took to his social media account and shared the moment he witnessed William seemingly ignoring his uncle. Following the emotional service at Westminster Abbey, Andrew, 65, was pictured seeming to laugh and smile while other senior members of the Royal Family appeared sombre.

It comes amid reports the Prince of Wales, 43, has been determined “not to be photographed” with his uncle in recent times. During their exchange the Duke of York tries to engage his nephew in a good-humoured chat but William appeared to look straight ahead. In a brief moment, he covered his mouth where some viewers noted this was the moment William may have attempted to respond to his uncle.

Royal correspondent Chris tweeted on X: “As family bid farewell after yesterday’s royal catholic funeral for the Duchess of Kent, Prince Andrew appears to want to strike up conversation with his nephew & says something he finds funny.

“William has no desire to respond. In fact, he doesn’t say a single word…”

He shared the video with his 175,000 followers who reacted to their awkward exchange.

One commented: “Yes I noticed the non-response from William too.”

Another echoed: “Williams demeanor, says it all, I’d say, Christmas is fun.”

“William knows he is on duty all the time. He takes it seriously. We can see that his uncle is unaware of cameras, unaware he is in any way representing Royalty, Duty or responsibility,” a third remarked.

Others suggested William did respond to Andrew, as one said: “William said something he just pretended to rub his nose so that his mouth couldn’t be read!”

A second noted: “William quite clearly speaks as he covers his mouth.”

The Duke of York was accused of sexual abuse by one of paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein’s most prominent victims, Virginia Giuffre.

Father-of-two Andrew has denied these accusations.
