The Summer I Turned Pretty is set to return for a film finale to conclude the beloved story, it has been confirmed, reports the Mirror.
Amazon Prime Video made the announcement during a glamorous event in Paris that viewers would be transported back to Cousins for a big-screen experience.
The revelation left fans absolutely thrilled, and came shortly after the series finale aired when viewers learnt who Belly (portrayed by Lola Tung) had ultimately chosen.
Prior to this, Han teased in a post-credits sequence that The Summer I Turned Pretty would be making a comeback with a heartfelt message stating: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love you’ve shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years.
“Whether you’ve been with Belly since the very first book or joined us with the show, I’m so grateful you’ve made Belly’s story part of your summers.”
“We put our whole heart into this show, and we’re so thankful to you for coming along with us on the ride. Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins. Until then – All of my love always, Jenny.”
Now, supporters are eager to discover more about the film and whether the two leading actors will return.
Will Lola Tung be returning as Belly for The Summer I Turned Pretty movie?
Numerous details remain closely guarded, but author and co-showrunner Han will be penning and helming the film. “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due.
“I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans,” Han expressed in a statement.
While the cast remains unconfirmed, it was evident from the announcement image that stars Briney and Tung would be returning to their roles.
In the photo, the two main actors looked stunning as they stood next to a sign reading: “The Summer I Turned Pretty The Movie.”
Given that the film is merely an extension of the TV series, the stars are set to return to conclude this narrative after viewers worldwide have become smitten with their portrayals of Belly and Conrad.
Han’s novels provided the foundation for The Summer I Turned Pretty series, with the third season drawing inspiration from We’ll Always Have Summer.
However, one significant element from the books that The Summer I Turned Pretty didn’t incorporate was Belly and Conrad’s wedding, which is now anticipated to be portrayed in the film.
Furthermore, fans can expect a more fulfilling conclusion for all characters, and it’s highly likely that Han will pave the way for some The Summer I Turned Pretty spin-offs.
Given the popularity of The Summer I Turned Pretty, any subsequent projects are likely to succeed given the immense interest in the show.
Han has developed a spin-off from her To All The Boys films, titled XO, Kitty, which is set to return for a third series on Netflix after premiering in 2023.
