Camp Rock 3 is officially in development for Disney+ and Disney Channel, 15 years after the sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam hit screens.
The Jonas Brothers – Joe, Nick and Kevin – will all be making their return to the musical franchise alongside a completely fresh cast.
Original star Demi Lovato is set to return as executive producer, though her reprisal of the role of Mitchie Torres remains unconfirmed.
Rather than continuing the previous storyline, the eagerly anticipated third instalment will introduce an entirely new ensemble of characters, headlined by Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’s Liamani Segura as Sage and Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires’ Malachi Burton as Fletch.
Additional casting includes Lumi Pollack (Electric Bloom) as Rosie, newcomer Hudson Stone as Desi, Casey Trotter (The Thundermans) as Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as Callie, Ava Jean as Madison and Joy Ride’s Sherry Cola as Lark, reports the Mirror.
The Jonas Brothers are set to reprise their roles as the band Connect 3’s Shane, Nate and Jason Gray, whilst Maria Canals-Barrera from Wizards of Waverly Place returns as Mitchie’s mum, Connie.
Nevertheless, speculation that Lovato won’t be returning as the film’s protagonist has triggered fury amongst Camp Rock devotees, with countless fans flocking to X to express their dismay.
One user raged: “camp rock without demi doesn’t make sense at all, she was literally the protagonist.”
Another posted: “a camp rock movie without demi?!?? yeah they can keep it sorry…”
“Sorry but camp rock is nothing without demi… she IS camp rock… how can you do a third without the main star,” a third demanded.
And another fan wrote: “I’m not trying to be rude or anything but camp rock is nothing without Demi or Mitchie. This movie is gonna flop.”
A synopsis for the third film released via Deadline has provided fans with initial details about the fresh class of campers: “The story picks up when Connect 3 lose their opening act for a major reunion tour, returning to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing.
“As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations and romances.
“Camp Rock’s all-new campers include bold and determined Sage (Segura) and her easygoing brother Desi (Stone), cello prodigy Rosie (Pollack), drummer with his own beat Cliff (Trotter), choreo queen Callie (Pitts), intimidating influencer Madison (Jean) and camp bad boy Fletch (Barton).”
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said in a statement: “Camp Rock is an important part of the Disney Channel Original Movie legacy, with unforgettable music, energetic storytelling, and characters that live in the hearts of fans to this day.
“Bringing it back with Kevin, Joe, Nick and Demi is such a full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to reintroduce this world to a new generation.”
Camp Rock 3 will be under the direction of Veronica Rodriguez and writer Eydie Faye, who previously helmed The Slumber Party in 2023.
Camp Rock 3 does not yet have a release date.
