High street banks are closing at a rapid rate with over 160 branches across major companies scheduled to close by the end of this year. Among the Mass closures, banks have also revealed even more are expected to close in 2026. The change across banks comes as less customers are banking in branches, but rather prefer dealing with their accounts online or via mobile app.
Lloyds Banking group, which includes, Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, also annouced that it will be closing numerous branches across its network both this year and next, and a significant number of the closures will be taking place next month.
The banking group plans to close more than 130 branches between May 2025 and March 2026, and 26 closures are scheduled for October.
Lloyds Banking Group has reviewed why each branch will be closing down, and the documented reviews can be found on each of the three individual banks’ websites.
The group has also taken measures to ensure that customers can continue accessing banking services, including having a Community Banker visit an area after a branch closes. Depending on independent reviews, the group may set up a Banking Hub or Deposit Service in a nearby location.
Customers can also use any Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland branch, regardless of which bank they have an account with.
Lloyds Bank said: “Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland are proud to be part of the same family and you can now use any of our branches for your everyday banking. The simplest and fastest way to do your banking is by using our app or online. But, if you need to use a branch, you can now visit any Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch. We’re proud to be part of a family.
