Marcus Rashford spoke out after helping Barcelona secure a 2-1 victory over Newcastle in the Champions League. The 27-year-old, who is on loan at Barca from Manchester United, was named man of the match after producing his finest performance to date for the Spanish giants.

Rashford joined Barcelona from the Red Devils in July following a difficult spell at Old Trafford. The winger endured a tough run of form during his final two seasons in Manchester and was shipped off on loan to Aston Villa during the second half of the last campaign. He failed to find the back of the net in his opening four matches for Barca, despite the fact his new side have scored 13 goals and remained unbeaten in their opening four La Liga encounters. But he returned to his best in the north east as Barcelona took all three points back to Spain with them.

Following his scintillating performance at St James’ Park, Rashford was quizzed about the early part of his Barcelona career as he spoke to TNT Sports.

And the England international insisted: “It’s going good. I’m obviously learning a lot. It’s a new way of football but I’m enjoying it all and I think it’s making me a better player. That’s what I’m here to do. I’m here to help the team win but also to improve and be the best I can be.

“It’s an amazing experience. I’ve always been a huge admirer of Barcelona. Most people my age have watched them play since we were younger. It’s amazing football, amazing players and we just want to win as much as possible.”

He continued: “The fans want to see their team win and play good football. This isn’t an easy place to play football, I know that firsthand. The first half was very cagey. But we done well and controlled the game in spells.

“It’s very difficult to play against this team. I’m really pleased that we managed to win.”
