High street banks are among the many large companies that are struggling on the high street. More than 200 bank closures were announced at the beginning of the year, and since then, the number has increased. Both NatWest and Halifax revealed they will be closing a significant number of their branches this year, and with the closures continuing, many Brits will see the doors of the local branches shut very soon.

In just days, both NatWest and Halifax will see a combined number of 14 branches close across the nation, with as many as four taking place tomorrow (Monday, September 15).

Banks have had to make the difficult decision to cut their number of branches as consumer habits across the country have dramatically shifted. More and more customers are choosing to handle their banking online and via mobile apps rather than banking in branches.

Halifax’s closures are part of a wider cut of the Lloyds Banking Group network. Those affected by the closures and needing to use a branch can visit any Lloyds Bank or Bank of Scotland, as they are part of one banking group.

Halifax also shared that it “may sometimes” have a Community Banker visit the area after a branch has closed down, or a Banking Hub or Deposit Service may be set up in a nearby location.

NatWest offers similar services, including Community Pop-ups in selected locations for up to 12 weeks after changes, and Mobile Branches, which visit specific locations up to five days a week throughout the year.
