Donald Trump fans are convinced that Melania is America’s best First Lady, saying she “stole the show” at last night’s state banquet.

The president and his wife were at Windsor Castle for a banquet during their state visit to the UK, where they had already been treated to a carriage procession and military parade around the castle. First Lady Melania wore a canary yellow, off-the-shoulder gown with long sleeves and a lilac satin belt from Carolina Herrera. Herrera has a history of dressing US First Ladies, among them Jacqueline Onassis, Laura Bush and Michelle Obama. She styled it with loose curls, large emerald earrings and a pair of nude, pointed-toe heels from Manolo Blahnik. Trump fans took to social media to praise the look. One user (@magavoice) said: “Who thinks Melania Trump is the most stunning First Lady America has ever had?” Others replied in agreement, with one saying: “America has class again.” Another said: “Stole the show. All she needs is a tiara.”

But not all were keen on the look. Marian Kwei, a celebrity stylist and Vogue contributor, said Melania’s gown was “not the expected colour to see at a high state banquet”. Kwei added: “Although it perhaps is in keeping with state dress protocol, the strapless gown is a little on the daring side.”

Tamara Abraham, deputy fashion director at the Telegraph, said the shade was “so bright, you’d forgive fellow guests for donning their sunglasses”.

The Princess of Wales wore a strapless ivory dress with a full-sleeve floral Chantilly lace overlay by British designer Phillipa Lepley. She added the Lover’s Knot Tiara and her royal sash and pins, wearing her hair down with loose curls.

Queen Camilla wore a royal blue dress from Fiona Clare, with long sleeves and a v-neck, along with her royal sash and pins. She also wore the Belgian Sapphire Tiara and the Diamond Festoon Necklace.

On Tuesday night, Melania arrived in the UK wearing a tan Burberry trench coat with the collar turned up, completing the look with black sunglasses and boots.

On Wednesday, she arrived at Windsor Castle in a wide-brimmed purple hat that obscured her eyes, which she paired with a dark grey Dior suit.
